Since 2013 till now we have built about 18,000 Energy Star Zero Energy Ready Homes. In that same time, we have built about 13,000,000 singles family homes. To put that into yearly numbers we build about 1,200,000 single family homes of which about 1,700 of those are Zero Energy Ready (ZERH) homes. That’s less than 0.2 % of all new homes built every year!

All new homes built starting in 2035 need to be Zero Energy Ready homes! That’s a lot of change needed very quickly!

I should note that Zero Energy Ready (ZERH) simply means that home is very energy efficient and with the addition of solar panels (or some other type of energy production) the home would be a Net Zero home meaning it produces the amount of energy it consumes. By 2050 all new homes need to be Net Zero Homes.

The EcoSmart™ Studs (ESS) are designed for this needed change!  The 2×6 ESS meets all the requirements for the exterior wall needed for the ZERH program. The 2×8 ESS exceeds those requirements and moves into Passive House exterior wall requirements. All at a far lower cost than other current wall systems.
