EcoSmart™ Stud is a 1-to-1 replacement for a standard exterior wall stud. A design that provides better R-values, less weight, and increased wall strength.
Energy
The 2×6 EcoSmart™ Stud has a potential R-15 rating compared to an R-6 for a standard wood stud. Higher R-value equals less energy loss, which in turn results in smaller utility bills.
Less Weight
The Typical 2×6 solid wood exterior stud weighs about 15 lbs. The EcoSmart™ Stud weighs about 10 lbs. making them easier to work with and cheaper to ship.
Strength
The standard EcoSmart™ Stud wall assembly using a base layer of closed cell spray foam racking strength exceeds the building code requirements for high wind and seismic areas of the country.
How It Works
The EcoSmart™ Stud places strategic thermal breaks in solid 2×6 & 2×8 wood studs to allow higher value insulation to fill in those breaks. With insulation filling the thermal breaks the R-value of the 2×6 EcoSmart stud is over 100% better than a standard solid 2×6. The EcoSmart™ Stud with the higher R-value lowers the thermal bridging energy loss from the solid stud. The EcoSmart™ Stud wall system meets and exceeds the requirements for exterior walls in the 2021/2024 National Energy Code.
