Meeting the Nation’s Top High Performance Builders
We just wrapped up three exciting days at the EEBA 2024 Summit in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was three amazing days of meeting with some of the best single and multifamily residential builders in the country. The EcoSmart crew met some great people and learned some new insights on what high performance builders are looking for to be able to build the house of the future today.
It was a great opportunity to listen, learn, and share new insights around high performance building practices. The conversations centered on energy efficiency, innovative building materials, and how builders can stay ahead of evolving standards.
A Big Year for Zero Energy Ready Homes
One of the most exciting updates came from the Department of Energy on the number of Energy Star Zero Energy Ready Homes (ZERH) built across the US and it’s encouraging! The amount of Zero Energy Ready Homes homes built doubled in 1 year! This shows a growing momentum in the residential construction industry toward more energy-efficient, high-performance homes. I have written about this before in the Flip the Script blog post. If this trend continues and accelerates it will be a momentous change in the residential construction industry.
Many larger new home builders across the US are pledging to have all their homes built to zero energy ready home standards in the next couple of years. The EcoSmart™ Stud is going to play a vital role in this change!
Innovations in Heat Pump Technology
Daikin and Rheem gave presentations on the advancements in heat pump technologies for water heaters and space heating/cooling. I’ll be using Rheem water heaters as examples in the zero energy ready home Build Series. Heat pump systems are going to play a vital role in residential construction.
