Primary floor framing is wrapping up, and setting roof trusses is next. There have been some changes along the way, but that is the nature of building custom homes; there are quite often changes in plans. The main floor went from all EcoSmart Perimeter Studs to a mix of EcoSmart Perimeter Studs (these go at the edges of the 4×8 sheathing) and EcoSmart Field Studs (these go between the perimeter studs). You can see the pattern in the featured image.
EcoSmart™ Stud Framing Choices
The EcoSmart Perimeter Studs give a thermal break along with a full nailing surface at the edges of the sheathing, where nails are most important. People who have been following us for a while will remember the Denver build that didn’t use EcoSmart Perimeter Studs. They had all EcoSmart Field Studs and used a hybrid 6/12 nailing pattern. Both framing choices are correct. The 2lb closed cell spray foam, after being installed into the wall assembly, completely glues all framing and sheathing together.
You be the Judge
One might wonder, do the nails reinforce the glue bond, or does the glue bond reinforce the nails? The answer is open for debate, because either way, the EcoSmart™ Stud wall system is a testament to strength, energy efficiency, air sealing, vapor sealing, and complete customization (change orders are always a challenge) even at the last minute on the job site.
We will have updates on tour dates in the next week or two.
