Well it was a busy week! Even with the EEBA High Performance Builders Summit here in our home state of Minnesota, there was a lot to do to get ready for the summit. A new display wall to show attendee’s how the EcoSmart™ Stud family of studs works together in a wall system. With the EcoSmart™ Stud there are plenty of choices of how to use our product so it can slowly be introduced to the framing crew.
You can see from the picture there are several options for around the window. Solid studs can be used for the top and bottom sill plates or EcoSmart™ Stud Perimeter or jack /trimmer plates. Also see the example of the outside energy corner often referred to as a California corner. This is a picture of the energy corner in the display wall with no spray foam installed.

What it looks like if we could take a cross section of the filled in energy corner.
For the back wall it’s an example of all field studs used to build a wall like the Colorado and Loon Lake #1 build.
But the option exists to mix studs together like the Sustainable 9 and Icon builds. Perimeter studs at the edge of the OSB and field studs in the middle of sheathing.
The EcoSmart™ Stud offers builders multiple solutions to introduce their framers to using wall studs with thermal breaks. This was a recurring theme that we stressed to builders at the summit.
Even though we are simply changing the type of stud a framer uses to build the exterior wall, it is still new to them. There is a slight learning curve, but by the second day, the framers are up to speed and can frame just as quickly, if not even quicker, than before.
The EEBA High Performance Builders Summit is a platform dedicated to the pursuit of building better homes. This goal aligns with the design of the EcoSmart™ Stud. This innovative stud is a testament to our shared commitment to improving the quality of homes.
